Dear Sir / Madam,

Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I hope you are doing well.

My name is Aman. I am the head of cultural committee at "Zydus Manufacturing" and writing this letter to provide you feedback about the Training Seminar which was organized at your hotel " Taj Mahal" last Friday.

The event was arranged specifically for IT technicians, and it was a great success because of the excellent audio and visual system arrangements. The sitting arrangement and the Wi-Fi were the key areas which needed focus and it was absolutely working great, without any disturbances. Additionally, some of our participants were impressed with the fresh fruits and juice served while event was ongoing. The staff was friendly, easily approachable and willing to help.

However, some of our guests had complained about parking space availability. I believe this is an important aspect of a hotel while organizing such big events and could have a bad impression on participants. If there is an improvement for parking facilities, we would like to collaborate for another event shortly.

Thank you

Yours sincerely,

Aman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly described the Training Seminar, highlighted the positive aspects such as the audio-visual equipment and staff service, and provided a constructive suggestion regarding parking. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning, and the ideas are well-developed and relevant. You have maintained a consistent focus throughout the response, ensuring that the reader understands the context and the specific feedback being provided.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You have used some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally' and 'However' to transition between ideas. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the flow of information is smooth. To reach a higher band, you could experiment with a wider variety of linking words or more sophisticated referencing to connect sentences more tightly, but the current structure is effective and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You have used a good range of vocabulary appropriate for a formal business letter, such as 'collaborate', 'approachable', and 'disturbances'. The language is generally precise and conveys your meaning clearly. There are a few minor issues with word choice, such as 'sitting arrangement' (better as 'seating arrangements') and 'could have a bad impression' (better as 'could create a negative impression'). These do not impede communication. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and slightly more sophisticated vocabulary to enhance the professional tone of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

The letter demonstrates a good control of grammar with a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and the meaning is always clear. There are a few minor grammatical slips, such as 'I am the head of cultural committee' (missing an article: 'the cultural committee') and 'while event was ongoing' (missing an article: 'the event'). Punctuation is generally accurate. You have shown the ability to construct complex sentences, which is a positive sign. Focusing on article usage and minor prepositional accuracy will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.
