Dear Sir / Madam,

Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I hope you are doing well.

My name is Aman. I am the head of the cultural committee at "Zydus Manufacturing" and I am writing this letter to provide you with the feedback about the Training Seminar which was organized at your hotel " Taj Mahal" last Friday.

The event was arranged specifically for IT technicians, and it was a great success because of the excellent audio and visual system arrangements. The seating arrangement and the Wi-Fi were the key areas which needed focus and they were absolutely working great, without any disturbances. Additionally, some of our participants were impressed with the fresh fruits and juice served while event was ongoing. The staff was friendly, easily approachable and willing to help.

However, some of our guests had complained about the parking space availability. I believe this is an important aspect of a hotel while organizing such a big event and could have a negative impression on participants. If there is an improvement for parking facilities, we would like to collaborate for another event shortly.

Thank you

Yours sincerely,

Aman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: providing event details, highlighting positive aspects (audio/visual, staff, catering), and suggesting improvements (parking). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The purpose of the letter is clear from the outset, and the ideas are developed sufficiently to meet the requirements of the task. The response maintains a consistent focus on the prompt throughout, and the structure is logical, ensuring the reader understands the context and the specific feedback being provided.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0

The letter is well-organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. Each paragraph has a central theme, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'However', and 'because of' are used effectively to link sentences and ideas. The transition between the positive feedback and the constructive criticism is smooth. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall flow of the letter is logical and easy to follow, meeting the criteria for a high band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

The vocabulary is generally accurate and appropriate for a formal business context. Phrases like 'cultural committee', 'Training Seminar', and 'collaborate for another event' demonstrate a good range. There are some minor issues with collocation, such as 'working great' (which is slightly informal) and 'provide you with the feedback about' (where 'the' is unnecessary). However, these do not impede communication. The student uses a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey their message clearly and professionally, showing an awareness of the required formal tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5

The letter displays a good control of grammar with a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and the punctuation is generally accurate. There are minor slips, such as 'while event was ongoing' (missing an article) and 'If there is an improvement for parking facilities' (which could be phrased more naturally as 'If parking facilities were improved'). Despite these minor inaccuracies, the meaning is always clear, and the grammatical control is strong enough to support the professional tone of the letter.
