Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to express my gratitude towards the exceptional service provided by the hotel management and to share some feedback regarding the event we organised recently.
On 25 July, we had organised a shareholder meeting in the main banquet hall. The meeting went very smoothly thanks to your service and equipment, specially the projecter, it had helped a lot to explain the presentation clearly.
One thing that i liked most about your hotel is the fabulous service provided. The staff are very agile and were able to meet our standard. They also welcomed our guests and help them a lot. Additionally, the quality and taste of food was exceptionaly good.
However, I think you should work on the parking space many of our clients has said that they had to park at shopping mall because there was no spot available in hotel. But overall experience was excellent.
Thanks for your service and I hope you consider my suggestion.
Your Faithful,
Om Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: providing details about the shareholder meeting, highlighting the service and food, and suggesting improvements regarding parking. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, fulfilling the requirements of the task effectively. The purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning, and the closing is appropriate for the context.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different topics. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'However', and 'On 25 July' are used to guide the reader through the text. While the flow is generally smooth, the transition between the praise for the staff and the food could be slightly more refined to improve the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task, with some good collocations like 'exceptional service' and 'banquet hall'. There are a few minor spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'projecter' (projector), 'exceptionaly' (exceptionally), and 'help' instead of 'helped' when referring to past actions. Despite these minor slips, the range is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly and maintain a professional tone throughout the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'many of our clients has said' (should be 'have said') and 'park at shopping mall' (missing article 'a' or 'the'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there is a comma splice in the second paragraph ('...equipment, specially the projecter, it had helped...'). However, these errors do not impede communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout the response.
