Dear Sir / Madam,

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter regarding a cultural event that i organised last week. I suggested calm and peaceful color choice for decoration. I named that event as cultural event as many of the workers in our hotel are from different culture and this event helped them to feel valued. At the end of an event, everyone had a chance to dance on their cultural music.

Moreover, I really liked lightning system of entire hotel and people who were present there appreciated about lightning too. Furthermore, an environment in the hotel is calmful as everyone can feel relaxed.

However, there are some things in your hotel to be improved. There would be more space for people to dance as they all felt there is no enough space to dance and floor was so slippery too.

I look forward for your response.

Yours faithfully,

abc

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting improvements. However, the response is slightly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the task achievement score. The content is relevant, but the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the description of the event is brief, and the suggestions for improvement could be more detailed to fully satisfy the prompt's requirements. To improve, ensure you expand on your points sufficiently to meet the length requirement and provide more depth in your explanations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'However' to transition between ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some sentences feel disjointed. For instance, the transition between the event description and the positive feedback could be smoother. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects well to the previous one.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks variety and precision. You use some basic terms like 'calmful' (which is not standard English) and 'lightning' (when you likely meant 'lighting'). Phrases like 'I named that event as cultural event' are repetitive and unnatural. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to event management and hospitality, and pay closer attention to word choice and collocations. Using more precise adjectives and nouns will make your writing more professional and engaging.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'i organised' (capitalization), 'no enough space', and 'appreciated about lightning'. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in articles, prepositions, and word forms affect the overall quality. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles or incorrect prepositions. Increasing the variety of your sentence structures will also help improve your score.
