Dear Sir / Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
We recently had an event at your esteemed hotel at 20/Aug/2026, it took place at 'The Grand" banquet hall at 1800 HRS and our capacity was for 250 pax. Overall the event was a success as the people were also talking about it post the event.
The ambience and food were really up to the mark, everyone enjoyed the different delicacies which were provided in the buffet. Along with the decor you did in the banquet hall was truly to appreciate at all times, but the most of all important part which was a top notch priority was hygiene and the way it was carried out was truly commendable.
However, despites the positives we had there were few areas where the things could have been improvised such as the serving staff was lacking professionalism. While serving the droplets of the food items were being dripped. Secondly, some of the staff was stalking the girls and that was pretty absurd. These were the areas of improvement which you can work on.
Yours faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: providing event details, expressing appreciation for the hotel, and suggesting improvements. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the inclusion of the serious allegation regarding staff behavior is handled somewhat abruptly. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. To reach a higher band, the development of the 'areas for improvement' could be more balanced; while the hygiene issue is mentioned positively, the negative feedback regarding staff conduct is quite severe and could be framed with more professional, constructive language to better suit the context of a formal complaint to a manager.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the event overview to positive feedback and finally to areas for improvement. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However' and 'Secondly', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The use of referencing is generally effective, though the sentence structure within the second paragraph is slightly cluttered. Overall, the information is easy to follow, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some good attempts at formal language such as 'esteemed', 'delicacies', and 'commendable'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'the most of all important part' and 'stalking the girls', which lacks the professional register required for a formal complaint. The phrase 'improvised' is used incorrectly here; 'improved' or 'addressed' would be more accurate. While the range is sufficient to convey the message clearly, more precise and sophisticated vocabulary would elevate the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writing contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as 'despites the positives we had there were few areas' (should be 'despite the positives, there were a few areas') and 'the droplets of the food items were being dripped' (which is awkward and grammatically imprecise). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with comma usage and sentence boundaries. While the meaning is always clear, the frequency of these minor errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band.
