Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
Hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter to express my satisfaction with your service. Recently, my company organized a cultural event at your hotel, and from booking to an arrangement all done on my side.
I especially appreciated your hospitality and food amenities. The decoration was stunning and provided enthusiastic vibes for the entire event. Additionally, your staff provided detailed attention to all the tasks, which was a fabulous experience.
However, I would like to suggest one area need to be improved, which is the parking lot. Many families attended the function, and we faced many difficulties during the program due to a lack of space in the parking area.
I would like to suggest this so we may not face any problems in the future.
Again, I would like to say thank you to you and your team, and appreciate your service.
Yours sincerely,
Maya Raha

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting an area for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, while you mention the event was 'cultural', providing a bit more context about the nature of the event would have made the letter more engaging. Similarly, the suggestion regarding the parking lot is clear, but could be expanded to explain how it impacted the guests' experience more specifically. Overall, you have successfully fulfilled the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Additionally' and 'However' to transition between ideas, which helps the flow. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter. To reach a higher band, you could experiment with a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression between sentences is smoother. For example, the transition between the positive feedback and the suggestion for improvement is functional but could be more sophisticated to better connect the two contrasting points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'hospitality', 'amenities', and 'stunning'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'from booking to an arrangement all done on my side', which sounds slightly unnatural. Additionally, 'enthusiastic vibes' is a bit informal for a business letter. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, incorporating more precise, professional collocations would enhance the quality of your writing and help you move into a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'one area need to be improved' (should be 'needs') and 'I would like to say thank you to you' (which is slightly redundant). Despite these errors, your meaning is always clear, and the mistakes do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and refining your use of prepositions. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.
