Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear manager,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to this letter for sharing my feeling about an event held on your hotel. Firstly, the organization event had essential because our International guests attending and discuss a valuable conversation for future growth of company. Hence, we did not want to miss this opportunity.

Furthermore, your staff service was gently admirable especially behavior and costumes, it looked like premium 5 star hospitality. On top of that, food taste was outstanding even though all attendants praise how you serve the cuisines . We chose your venue due to high rating of consumers related to dishes and variety of cultural taste.

Moreover, from my perspective, there are some areas you will need to improve. The decoration could be better in night, the light was so bright and you can make little ambient theme for professional meet up. Apart from lightning, sound quality also was moderate.

Overall, your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated. I am looking forward to seeing how my suggestions translate into prompt actions from your side.

Your faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting areas for improvement. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention the event was for international guests, you could have provided more specific details about the nature of the event to better satisfy the task requirements. The structure is clear, and the purpose of the letter is evident from the beginning. To improve, ensure that each point is expanded with slightly more descriptive detail to demonstrate a fuller response to the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You use transition signals such as 'Furthermore', 'On top of that', and 'Moreover' to guide the reader through your points. While these are effective, some of the linking is slightly mechanical. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing and sentence flow, such as in the opening sentence where 'writing to this letter' is grammatically awkward. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter format.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'hospitality', 'cuisines', and 'cooperation'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors that hinder precision. For example, 'organization event had essential' is unclear, and 'behavior and costumes' is an unnatural way to describe staff professionalism and uniforms. You also use 'lightning' when you mean 'lighting'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they indicate a need for more careful attention to word choice and collocations to reach a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there is a high frequency of grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include incorrect preposition usage ('held on your hotel' should be 'at your hotel'), missing articles ('the organization event'), and tense inconsistencies. Some sentences are structurally incomplete or awkward, such as 'the light was so bright and you can make little ambient theme'. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction limit the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct prepositional phrases will significantly improve your accuracy.
