Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am Sukhman Singh. I had been waiting for an auspicious day for two months in order to celebrate 25th anniversary of the hotel with Pomp and show.
First, this event was held on 22 August, 2026, Monday. It was organised by the hotel staff to make a day memorable in a year, even it had been 25 years of hotel. This event was celebrated in the evening between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm. It was completely a surprise for the owner of the hotel. Party includes soft drinks, pizzas and had fun with music and dancing.
The best thing that I appreciated about the hotel was staff, who were very good at providing services. Even, they all were very helpful, positive attitude, receiving calls or messages instantly. What's more, I also noticed they all had put on masks and gloves for the hygienic purposes results in preventing diseases which are easily transmitted from person to person.
Although, I did not find anything in the hotel, which made me feel weird and dissatisfied, but there was a lack of elevators in the hotel, which should be increased in number.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: providing details about the event, mentioning what you liked, and suggesting improvements. However, the development of these points is somewhat uneven. The description of the event is a bit confusing, particularly the mention of the '25th anniversary of the hotel' and the 'owner of the hotel' being surprised, which feels slightly disjointed. The suggestion for improvement regarding elevators is clear, but the reasoning could be more specific to the event context. To improve, ensure that your narrative flows logically and that all details directly support the purpose of the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices like 'First', 'What's more', and 'Although', which assist in linking ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the logical progression between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition from the event description to the staff appreciation section is abrupt. Improving the use of referencing and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would help elevate your score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'auspicious', 'memorable', and 'hygienic purposes'. However, there are some instances of awkward word choice and collocation, such as 'Pomp and show' (usually 'pomp and circumstance') and 'results in preventing diseases' (which is grammatically clunky). While your meaning is generally clear, the use of less common vocabulary is sometimes slightly inaccurate. Focusing on natural collocations and refining your word choices will help you convey your message with more precision and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'I had been waiting... in order to celebrate 25th anniversary' (missing article), 'Party includes soft drinks' (tense inconsistency), and 'they all were very helpful, positive attitude' (missing verb/preposition). Additionally, the sentence 'Although, I did not find anything... but there was a lack' is structurally incorrect as 'although' and 'but' should not be used together in this way. Increasing your control over articles, verb tenses, and sentence connectors will significantly improve your accuracy.
