Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am writing this letter regarding a corporate even which was held on the 2nd of october between 8:00 to 12:00 pm by the Amazon cloud servicing.
To begin with, the function was managed wonderfully and decoration was top notch especially the color combinations of ballons which were used to decorate stage area was complimenting the theme. In addition, I would like to address hard work of event management team for planning seating arrangement as well as placement of sound system. Moreover, the proper was well maintained and clean as I heard lots of good comments about fast room service and hospitality.
We conducted survey among employees regarding event. Although, every area got positive feedback but food quality was the one which need more improvement. we felt that portion size was too small.
Your's Sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter covers all three bullet points: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. However, the response is under the 150-word minimum, which limits the development of ideas. While the event details are provided, the description of the event itself is quite brief. The suggestion for improvement regarding food quality is clear but lacks specific detail that would make the feedback more actionable for the manager. To improve, you should expand on the event's purpose and provide more descriptive language regarding the specific food issues encountered to ensure the response meets the length requirement and demonstrates a more thorough engagement with the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, and the progression of ideas is generally clear. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'In addition,' and 'Moreover' to link your points. However, the connection between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'the proper was well maintained,' where the noun is missing or misused. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, but the overall flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph develops a single, cohesive idea more fully.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. Phrases like 'top notch' are slightly informal for a business letter. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'corporate even' (event) and 'the proper was well maintained' (likely referring to the property). While you successfully convey your meaning, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional errors that slightly distract the reader. To improve, focus on using more formal business terminology and ensuring accurate word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. For example, '2nd of october' should be capitalized, 'between 8:00 to 12:00 pm' is grammatically awkward, and 'food quality was the one which need more improvement' contains a subject-verb agreement error ('needs'). Additionally, there are punctuation and capitalization issues, such as 'Your's Sincerely' (should be 'Yours sincerely'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the overall accuracy of the writing. Increasing your focus on proofreading for basic grammar and punctuation will help improve your score.
