Dear Sir / Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to acknowledge your support for organizing the event of my company on 8 March 2026.
If you could recall, our company L&T Corp. held an get-together for employees and their families on 8 March 2026 evening from 6;00 pm onwards. On 8 March our company completed its 10 years of successful foundation. Coincidently, this day also marked the celebration of International Women's Day. As our organization is having more than 60% of women employees, we thought of celebrating by clubbing both the events together.
The arrangements made by your hotel and staff was incredible. Decoration on the theme of company's foundation day and women's day was the eye-catcher of the event. Everyone appreciated the decoration, theme and systematically arranged sitting for staff and their families. I was also happy to see, that your hotel allotted a dedicated area only for children to enjoy. This actually made adults to relax and enjoy the evening, without running behind their children. I really appreciate yours and your staff efforts.
But, at the same time I would like to suggest few areas of improvement. Firstly, one of the curry served at dinner was very spicy. It was very difficult for kids especially to eat. Secondly, there was little choice among the dessert served. There was just two sweets to select between as a dessert. It would have been better, if few more sweets could be added. Thirdly, stock of ice-cream was limited. Many children could not get ice-cream to eat. I would like you to improve these weaker sections of your hotel.
Rest assured, we are certainly going to have our next event plan again in your hotel. By that time your hotel management would be able to overcome their shortcomings.
Looking forward for a positive response.
Regards,
Shelley
General Manager, L&T Corp.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided clear details about the event, including the date and the dual purpose of the celebration. You highlighted specific positive aspects, such as the themed decoration and the dedicated children's area, and provided constructive suggestions for improvement regarding the food and dessert options. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager, and the purpose of the communication is clear throughout. The response is well-developed and fully satisfies the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing each prompt requirement, and a professional closing. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate different topics. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'At the same time' to guide the reader through your points. While some transitions are slightly mechanical, the overall progression of ideas is smooth and easy to follow. The referencing is generally clear, and the structure supports the reader's understanding of your feedback.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'acknowledge', 'foundation', 'coincidently', and 'shortcomings'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'clubbing both the events together' (which is slightly informal) and 'weaker sections' (which is not the most natural collocation for service areas). However, these do not impede communication. You successfully convey your message with sufficient precision to meet the requirements of the task, though a wider variety of sophisticated collocations would elevate the score further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'our organization is having' (should be 'has'), 'one of the curry' (should be 'one of the curries'), and 'there was just two sweets' (should be 'there were'). Punctuation also shows some minor issues, such as the semicolon in '6;00 pm'. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter. The majority of your sentences are understandable, and the errors do not cause significant difficulty for the reader.
