Student answer (Band 8.0)
Dear Sir / Madam,
I am writing this to share my review with regard to the function which was organized by my company at your hotel. It was an annual recognition event for the year 2025. We booked the hall A which can be occupied by 150 people. Along with this we also had a contract with your team for the catering services and decorations.
Your hotel was recommended by one of my friends for the best office events and most of our expectations were met. The hall was well equipped with smart screens and other required technical gadgets. Moreover, seating arrangements were also above the mark since every single guest was able to see the stage and tables were also placed accordingly. It was worth hiring your team for the catering, the food was scrumptious and majority of the guests left positive reviews about that.
I, however, felt that some modifications could have made the event even better. The decoration was too basic for the yearly event. I expected aesthetic show pieces and some captivating art pieces at the venue. Furthermore, the staff needs more training on working in fast-paced environment because when it was time for the chief guest’s entry, the crew member was little late to handover bouquet. Fortunately, these things did not impact the event much.
Overall, we had a positive experience with your services and will surely refer your hotel to friends. We appreciate your team’s hard-work and dedication.
Yours faithfully
Khushpreet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided clear details about the event, identified specific strengths of the hotel (technical equipment and catering), and offered constructive suggestions for improvement (decorations and staff training). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager, and the purpose is clear from the beginning. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the context of a corporate event. You have maintained a consistent focus throughout the letter, ensuring all requirements of the task are met effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'Along with this', 'Moreover', 'However', and 'Furthermore' to connect your ideas smoothly. The progression of information is clear, moving from the event description to positive feedback, then to constructive criticism, and finally to a polite closing. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate distinct topics, making the letter easy to follow. The referencing is clear throughout, and the flow of ideas is natural and professional.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for a formal business context. Phrases like 'scrumptious', 'aesthetic show pieces', 'captivating', and 'fast-paced environment' show an ability to use less common items with precision. There are no significant errors in word choice or collocation that impede communication. While some vocabulary is standard, it is used accurately and effectively to convey your message. You successfully maintain a professional tone throughout the letter, which is essential for this type of task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
You use a variety of complex sentence structures, such as 'I am writing this to share my review with regard to the function which was organized by my company'. Most of your sentences are error-free, and your control over grammar and punctuation is strong. There are minor slips, such as 'the crew member was little late to handover bouquet' (missing articles) and 'hard-work' (unnecessary hyphen), but these are rare and do not interfere with the clarity of your writing. Your use of tenses is consistent and appropriate for the context of a past event.
