Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting an area for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager, and the purpose is clear from the outset. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the task requirements. The response maintains a consistent focus throughout, and the structure is logical, ensuring the reader understands the context and the specific feedback provided regarding the event and the technical issue encountered.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each serving a clear purpose. The progression of ideas is easy to follow, moving from the introduction to the positive feedback and finally the constructive suggestion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Finally' are used to link ideas effectively. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by minor punctuation errors and slightly awkward phrasing, such as the run-on sentence in the third paragraph. Despite these minor issues, the overall structure is coherent and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their message clearly. There are some attempts at more specific vocabulary, such as 'accommodating' and 'punctuality'. However, there are several spelling errors (e.g., 'rhis', 'collegues', 'snaks', 'receievd', 'thankfull', 'wchich') and some informal phrasing like 'you guys'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of precise, formal vocabulary to reach a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tense consistency and sentence construction, such as 'how everything was read and throught the event'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several missing commas and run-on sentences that affect readability. Although the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors suggests that the writer needs to focus on basic grammatical accuracy and sentence boundary control to improve their score.
