Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to express my gratitude to you and your team members for the event organized on Saturday, 2 August with professionalism. The team has handled all the events , for instance, presentations alongside serving refreshments were up to the mark.

Overall my employees have enjoyed the event. One of the highlights of the event was the award ceremony which was carefully and precisely handled by the management staff. Moreover, the catering was perfectly handled.

In my opinion, I personally liked the dress code of the staff members to distinguished from the rest of the guests. Furthermore, the delicacies served were loved by everyone. The main highlight of the event was the presentations and the award ceremony, which was prepared perfectly.

The main concern in the event was the damaged air conditioning in the afternoon has boiled the room. Additionally, the seating area need an improvement as there were few chairs to accommodate the guests. Perhaps you could consider an improvements in these areas.

It would be highly appreciated if you'd consider above mentioned suggestions. Our company will organise another upcoming events to strengthen the relationships between both of our companies.

Your sincerely

Ava

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: providing event details, expressing appreciation for the hotel, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, some ideas are slightly repetitive; for example, you mention the presentations and award ceremony twice in the second and third paragraphs. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph introduces distinct information rather than restating previous points. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader is fully informed of your experience and requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'Additionally' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between the second and third paragraphs is hindered by the repetition of the event highlights. Improving the logical progression by avoiding the restatement of the same points would enhance the coherence of your writing. The use of paragraphing is appropriate for the task type.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'professionalism', 'delicacies', and 'accommodate'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'to distinguished from' (should be 'to distinguish them from') and 'has boiled the room' (which is an unnatural collocation). While you successfully convey your meaning, the vocabulary is generally functional rather than sophisticated. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the seating area need an improvement' (subject-verb agreement error: 'needs') and 'to strengthen the relationships between both of our companies' (slightly awkward phrasing). Additionally, there is a minor punctuation error in the closing 'Your sincerely' (should be 'Yours sincerely'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing your control over subject-verb agreement and prepositional usage will help improve your accuracy.
