Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear Manager,
I am writing this letter about an event which was held two weeks ago for a charity fundraise for children's education who are handicapped.
I would like to mention good things I heard about your hotel from our guests. They were so happy about your management. I would also mention that our guests liked the food that you served as well as the decorations were made according to the event.
But there are some recommendations that I would like to share with you it would be very helpful if your washrooms were also clean as well as if your hotel has some facilities for handicapped people like space for wheelchairs.
Your faithfully,
Tanzim.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses all three bullet points: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. However, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum, which limits the development of ideas. The event details are vague; for instance, 'a charity fundraise' lacks specifics about the nature or scale of the event. The suggestions for improvement are relevant but lack depth. Because the response fails to meet the length requirement, the development of the task is insufficient, preventing it from reaching a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is organized into short paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is very limited. The transitions between sentences are basic, and there is a lack of variety in linking words. For example, the second paragraph relies on simple 'I would also' structures. While the overall progression is logical, the lack of sophisticated cohesive devices and the brevity of the text make the flow feel somewhat mechanical and disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is functional but basic. Phrases like 'good things I heard' and 'decorations were made according to the event' are repetitive and lack precision. There is little attempt to use less common or more sophisticated vocabulary. While the meaning is generally clear, the range is limited to simple, everyday language. To improve, you should incorporate more specific terminology related to event management and hospitality, such as 'amenities,' 'accessibility,' or 'impeccable service.'
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, 'charity fundraise for children's education who are handicapped' is awkwardly phrased and grammatically incorrect. There are also issues with punctuation and sentence boundaries, such as the run-on sentence in the final paragraph: '...share with you it would be very helpful if...'. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to demonstrate a lack of control over complex structures.
