Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I Angad Singh from light vision limited had hosted and event at your hotel last week. I am writting to you this letter to give my feedback on behalf of my company about the same.
Our company had organised a midterm appreciation party, as we reached our financial target before the given timeline.I must applaud the you and your team for making this possible in such small notice, everything from decorations to food was beyond perfect not to forget the Prime rib, it was a real show stopper all my collegues left commenting that this was the best one we have ever had. It really was very juicy and tender.
While everything was great i felt we had very limited beverage options. The bartender said these are the only few drinks you offer for large groups, i was ready to pay extra to add more drinks but he said that won't be allowed which quiet surprising.
Apart from the drinks everything else was good and we would definetly be back for future events. I hope you take my feedback positively.
Thank you,
Angad Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided details about the event (a midterm appreciation party), expressed appreciation for the hotel's service and food, and suggested an area for improvement regarding beverage options. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and clearly communicated, meeting the requirements of the task effectively. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the 'details' of the event, such as the number of attendees or the specific date, to add more depth to the narrative.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the introduction to the positive feedback, the critique, and finally the conclusion. Paragraphing is used to separate these distinct ideas, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited; you rely heavily on simple transitions. Using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'nevertheless') would improve the flow between sentences and paragraphs. Additionally, some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the food quality and the beverage complaint.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'applaud', 'show stopper', and 'midterm appreciation party' effectively. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'at such small notice' (should be 'at such short notice') and 'quite surprising' (missing the verb 'is'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over idiomatic expressions and collocations to reach a higher band level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I Angad Singh... had hosted and event' (should be 'an event'), 'I am writting to you this letter' (should be 'I am writing this letter to you'), and 'the you and your team' (extra 'the'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma splices and missing spaces after periods. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors prevents a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage would be beneficial.
