Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir\Madam,

I am writing to give you to give you a feedback regarding the event my company had in your hotel.

We used kings Hotel hall for the Court wedding reception which was 350meteres that we had 300 guests which the guest were asked to be dressed on black and white the couple were wearing white and we used your hotel catering services for the wedding.

The hall we used was amazing,it was large enough for the guests and it was spacious for our guest and the couples to dance and play other games during the wedding ceremony.

Another thing i liked about your hotel was the catering services, the food was delicious and the waiters and waiterrs were respectful and had good communication skills and were able to speak to the guests nicely and without showing their emotions even thou some guests were rude.

However there are some areas which could be improved but i will just mention the important one i noticed,it the car park it was small and had limited access because of the other guests in your hotel too. Because of that reason some of the guest of the wedding had to park on the road and which they got tickets and which some of them were angry about the situation.

Thank you

Yours Faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter covers all three bullet points: the event details, positive aspects of the hotel, and areas for improvement. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the description of the event is a bit cluttered with unnecessary details about the guests' clothing, which distracts from the purpose of the letter. The suggestion for improvement regarding the car park is clear, but the explanation of the consequences could be more concise. To reach a higher band, ensure that all information provided directly serves the purpose of the letter and maintains a professional focus throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For instance, the frequent use of 'and' to connect clauses makes the sentences feel run-on and less sophisticated. There are also some issues with punctuation, such as missing spaces after commas and periods, which affects the flow of the text. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' to connect ideas more fluidly and improve the overall readability of the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety expected at higher levels. There are some spelling errors, such as 'waiterrs' and 'thou' instead of 'though'. The phrasing is often simplistic, such as 'give you to give you a feedback' and 'play other games'. While the meaning is clear, the range of vocabulary is limited to common words. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology related to event management and hospitality, and ensure you proofread for basic spelling and word-choice errors to enhance the professional tone of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the guest were asked'), run-on sentences, and incorrect preposition usage. The punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and the lack of spacing after punctuation marks. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence boundary control and subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your accuracy.
