Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my gratitude and sharing the experience of the marketing event held last week for my company Tech Solutions.
It was a major event organized on 20 August ,2026 for the advertisement companies to offer their quotes for our next promotional tour designed to enhance our marketing strategies. Being the Marketing Manager , I was the main organizer and the event was personally attended by the company' s CEO and the Vice President . It was supposed to start at 10:30 am and we had also asked the hotel to arrange for snacks and lunch .
We had various options in mind but the reason to choose your hotel was primarily its prime location and the warm and professional ambience . I really liked your conference room as it is spacious and can accommodate people in large numbers .
There are a few areas I would like to highlight which require some sort of improvement. The food service was too slow as the snacks were offered an hour later from the start . Despite of having large space , the seating plan was congested and our guests faced difficulty in finding their seats . I would like to draw your attention towards these lapses in the management as they degrade the quality of service one expects to have from a hotel of such prestige .
Overall it was a wonderful experience and everyone praised the arrangements.
Kind Regards
Man Mehak

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You provided clear details about the marketing event, identified specific positive aspects of the hotel such as the location and conference room, and offered constructive suggestions regarding food service and seating arrangements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the outset. To reach a higher band, ensure that the connection between the event details and the hotel's performance is even more tightly integrated to demonstrate a more sophisticated level of task response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'Despite of', 'Overall', and 'I would like to draw your attention'. However, there are minor issues with cohesion; for example, 'Despite of' is grammatically incorrect and disrupts the flow. Additionally, some transitions between sentences could be smoother to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the clarity of the message.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message with precision. Phrases like 'prime location', 'warm and professional ambience', and 'lapses in the management' are effective and appropriate for the context. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'sharing the experience' which should be 'to share the experience' to maintain parallel structure with 'express my gratitude'. While the vocabulary is adequate and functional, incorporating a few more sophisticated collocations or less common lexical items would elevate the response further. The spelling is generally accurate throughout the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most sentences are clear and error-free, which ensures that communication is never impeded. However, there are a few grammatical slips, such as 'Despite of having large space' (should be 'Despite the large space' or 'Despite having a large space') and the punctuation error in '20 August ,2026'. Additionally, 'offered an hour later from the start' is slightly awkward; 'an hour after the start' would be more natural. Despite these occasional errors, your control over complex structures is generally good and supports the overall clarity of your writing.
