Dear Sir / Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to appreciate the efforts of your hotel for remarkable arrangements in accordance to a group meeting for the members of my company.

The event took place on August 17th, 2026. It was a formal staff meeting. There were almost 50 members including managers and head officers.

I would be more than happy to share my incredible experience on behalf of my full team. It was quite spacious hall with perfectly working equipment such as projectors , screens and computers, which were essential for the meeting. Refreshments offered were absolutely excellent.

I would like to give some advice bout some areas which I personally feel could be improved. The cooling system should need some upgradations as it was really hot in the hall on the meeting. I would also recommend to replace the furniture as it was a bit uncomfortable to sit for longer hours.

I hope you will consider my suggestions in a positive way. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Kind regards,

Rohan Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly identified the event, highlighted positive aspects such as the equipment and refreshments, and provided constructive suggestions for improvement regarding the cooling system and furniture. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, explaining why the furniture was uncomfortable or how the temperature affected the meeting would add more depth to your response while maintaining the professional tone required for this task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use basic cohesive devices like 'I would also recommend' and 'I hope you will' to link your sentences. However, the transition between the positive feedback and the suggestions could be smoother. To improve, try using a wider range of cohesive devices, such as 'Furthermore' or 'In addition to these positives,' to connect your paragraphs more fluidly and demonstrate a more sophisticated control of discourse markers.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'remarkable arrangements' and 'essential for the meeting' are used effectively. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'in accordance to' (should be 'in accordance with') and 'should need some upgradations' (upgradations is not standard; 'upgrades' or 'improvements' is better). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on more natural collocations and avoiding non-standard word forms will strengthen your lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips. For example, 'It was quite spacious hall' is missing an article ('a'), and 'The cooling system should need some upgradations' is awkward phrasing. Additionally, 'in the hall on the meeting' should be 'during the meeting'. You demonstrate a good grasp of basic grammar, but to achieve a higher score, you need to increase the frequency of error-free sentences and ensure that your use of articles and prepositions is more precise throughout the text.
