Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

Hope you are fine. I am willing to know you about that I enjoyed a lot in the birthday of our supervisor which we organised last month in your hotel. The party hal of the hotel is very big so it is very easy for us to invite guests according to our requirement. The hall was looking very attractive because it was whole decorated with candles, lights and colourful ballons. Apart from this, this hall is located at the top floor of the hotel from where the outside view really attract the guests and people had click a lot of photos from the window side of the hall. At the end of the party all looked very happy and praised about the place which also give us inner satisfaction because we also want everyone makes happy.

One more thing which I really liked in your hotel is food because all the food is vegetarian and cooked with organic nutrients. All the guests enjoy the food such as shahi panner, baryani, khofte, dal, saag and many more. Even the food taste is delicious and looked like homemade food. If you don't mind I wanna inform you related the improvement of air conditioner because it was not working properly on that day due to this a lot of people feel hot in the party while dancing and eating time and they leave the party early without informing us which really put bad impact on our guests. I am very appreciate if you will look towards this problem breefly.

Best regards

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting improvements. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a manager, although it leans slightly informal. The ideas are relevant, such as the description of the hall and the specific food items. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive, and the letter could be improved by focusing more on the professional nature of the event rather than just the party atmosphere. Overall, the task requirements are met, but the depth of the response could be enhanced to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'Apart from this' and 'One more thing'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the logical progression is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as the transition between the food description and the air conditioning issue. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure could benefit from more sophisticated linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly. Paragraphing is present, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs needs more variety.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, including specific terms like 'vegetarian', 'organic', and 'nutrients'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and non-standard collocations, such as 'willing to know you about that', 'whole decorated', and 'put bad impact'. These errors occasionally make the text sound unnatural. To improve, you should focus on learning common collocations and more formal expressions suitable for business correspondence. While your vocabulary is adequate for the task, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter. Examples include 'people had click a lot of photos' (tense error), 'everyone makes happy' (word form/structure error), and 'I am very appreciate' (incorrect verb form). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. You should focus on subject-verb agreement, correct tense usage, and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately to improve your control over grammar.
