Dear Sir / Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Manager,

I am writing to express my gratitude for the excellent services provided by your staff members at my company's annual event. The event named 'The Annual Meet and Greet' was held on August 24, 2026. More than 100 members mainly shareholders, chairpersons, auditors and employees were invited to this event. The event was organized to reward the best performers of the year in various fields.

The sitting arrangements were made so accurately that everyone was able to see the presentation screen. On the top of that the lightening in the hall was greatly appreciable as it assisted in providing and highlighting key details of the talk. All the attendees were pleased with the quick food service. The other services such as cleanliness, water supply and refreshing towels were being stocked at all the times.

There are only a few areas that needs to be looked after and need some fixation. The air conditioning and sound system in the meeting room was not working properly. The air conditioner was not able to cool the area with large gathering. So, there should be installation of more devices. Additionally, the volume was clearly audible at the front but the last seats were barely able to get the speeches. Thus, the sound system needs to repaired.

I hope to hearing from you soon.

Yours faithfully,

Sam.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the task. You provided clear details about the event, such as the date and the number of attendees. You also highlighted specific positive aspects of the hotel, including the seating arrangements and food service, and offered constructive suggestions regarding the air conditioning and sound system. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, ensuring the reader understands the purpose of the communication clearly. You have fulfilled all requirements of the prompt effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which aids readability. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally' and 'Thus' to link ideas. However, the transition between the positive aspects and the areas for improvement could be smoother. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the flow of ideas is generally clear and easy to follow throughout the text. The use of referencing is generally accurate, contributing to the overall coherence of the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'shareholders', 'appreciable', and 'installation'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'lightening' (which refers to a weather phenomenon; 'lighting' is the correct term) and 'fixation' (which is slightly unnatural in this context; 'rectification' or 'improvement' would be better). Despite these minor slips, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly and effectively. You successfully use a range of words related to event management and hotel services.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement ('areas that needs' should be 'areas that need') and prepositional errors ('hope to hearing' should be 'hope to hear'). Additionally, 'the last seats were barely able to get the speeches' is slightly awkward; a more natural phrasing would be 'attendees in the back rows could barely hear the speeches'. While these errors are present, they do not impede communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout the letter.
