Dear Sir / Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Manager,
I am writing to express my gratitude for the excellent services provided by your staff members at my company's annual event. The event named 'The Annual Meet and Greet' was held on August 24, 2026. More than 100 members mainly shareholders, chairpersons, auditors and employees were invited to this event. The event was organized to reward the best performers of the year in various fields.
The seating arrangements were made so accurately that everyone was able to see the presentation screen. On the top of that the lighting in the hall was greatly appreciable as it assisted in providing and highlighting key details of the talk. All the attendees were pleased with the quick food service. The other services such as cleanliness, water supply and refreshing towels were being provided at all the times.
There are only a few areas that needs to be looked after and need some repairs. The air conditioning and sound system in the meeting room were not working properly. The air conditioner was not able to cool the area with large gathering. So, there should be installation of more devices. Additionally, the volume was clearly audible at the front but the last seats were barely able to hear the speech. Thus, the sound system needs to be repaired.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Sam.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: providing event details, highlighting positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The event details are clear, and the suggestions for improvement are specific and relevant. The response is well-structured and covers all requirements of the prompt effectively, demonstrating a clear purpose throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organised with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow the narrative easily. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Thus', and 'On the top of that' are used to link sentences and ideas. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure is coherent, making the letter easy to read and understand.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally appropriate for a formal business letter. You used terms like 'shareholders', 'auditors', and 'presentation screen' effectively. However, there are some minor collocations that could be more natural, such as 'greatly appreciable' or 'refreshing towels'. While the range is sufficient to convey your message clearly, incorporating more precise academic or professional vocabulary would elevate the response further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'areas that needs to be looked after' (should be 'need') and 'at all the times' (should be 'at all times'). Despite these occasional errors, the meaning is never obscured, and the majority of your sentences are accurate. The punctuation is generally correct, and the formal tone is maintained throughout.
