Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting areas for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the description of the event is slightly confusing due to grammatical errors, and the suggestions for improvement could be more specific regarding the 'toiletries' issue. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully extended and clearly articulated to avoid any ambiguity for the reader.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure of your response. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'However' to transition between ideas. However, the progression of ideas within the paragraphs is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing, such as in the opening paragraph where the sentence structure is disjointed. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, which makes the flow feel a bit mechanical. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one will enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, using terms like 'seminar', 'dissatisfaction', and 'facilities'. However, there are several instances of incorrect word choice and collocation, such as 'honoured moment' instead of 'pleasant experience', 'lunching' instead of 'launching', and 'toiletries material'. These errors occasionally impede the precision of your communication. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that the words you choose are appropriate for the context of a formal business letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('that recently organised'), missing articles, and awkward sentence construction ('staff’s complaints it has lack of'). While these errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to cause some difficulty. To achieve a higher score, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately without losing clarity.
