Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir / Madam,
I am writing to thank you for the excellent service provided by your hotel for our company's event last week.
This event was organised for the success party of the company. There were 75 people invited to this event. Our company always holds this event every year in order to appreciate the hardwork of the colleagues. Everyone enjoyed there.
What I really liked about this event was the serviced provide by your staff. They were friendly and quite fast. They have arranged everything in a systematic way; therefore it was convenient for the guests to find all the amenities. Food was also fresh and delicious.
However, there are some areas that need to be addressed like the parking areas. The parking area was crowded, that results in disappointment for the guests. Taking more time to park causes a waste of time. Moreover, there was a delay in serving the dinner because of this people had to wait for several minutes.
Overall, it was a great experience to have an event at your hotel. In the future, we would love to organise more events at your place and the given problems need to be solved for the next time.
Yours faithfully,
Kamalvir Kaur Ratia

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided details about the event (a company success party with 75 guests), mentioned what you liked (staff service and food quality), and suggested areas for improvement (parking and dinner service delays). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, fulfilling the requirements of the task effectively. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more specific detail, such as the date of the event or the specific name of the event room, to add a more authentic touch to the correspondence.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a concluding remark. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'therefore', 'however', and 'moreover' to link your ideas. While the progression is clear, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. For example, the shift between the parking issue and the dinner delay could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different aspects of your feedback. Overall, the structure is easy to follow and serves the purpose of the letter well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. Phrases like 'systematic way', 'amenities', and 'disappointment' are used correctly. However, there are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'success party' (which would be more naturally phrased as 'celebration' or 'awards ceremony') and 'serviced provide' (should be 'service provided'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands. Expanding your use of collocations would enhance the professional tone of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'hardwork' (should be two words), 'Everyone enjoyed there' (should be 'enjoyed themselves'), and 'that results in' (should be 'which resulted in'). Additionally, the sentence 'because of this people had to wait' lacks a comma after the introductory phrase. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage (since the event occurred in the past) will help improve your accuracy.
