Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter regarding an experienced we had at Residence Inn Marriott on August 2nd. Our company held second anniversary of Bonnechere Engineering and we had mixed feeling.
The event was organized for our center branch employees almost two hundreds people. Most of them like the hall because it was spacious and lighting was adequate and floor was tidy. In addition to that, we have been planning to host company expansion meeting at your venue next year most probably next month.
The best thing about the hotel was varieties of cuisines as well as the kitchen was well maintained and hygienic. Similarly, staff were really patient and helpful throughout our session.
However, there were few things we would like to see significantly better when we held our event next time. For instance, north and south entrances were open all the time due to that many strangers were in our event and make situation more chaos As a result, we got distracted for few hours.
I hope you will make necessary changes and make Marriott more luxury as well as comfortable place for hosting any event.
Yours Sincerely
kesahv,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting areas for improvement. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed; for example, the description of the event could be more specific regarding the nature of the 'second anniversary' celebration. Additionally, the transition between the event details and the suggestion for improvement is a bit abrupt. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully extended with more descriptive language and that the purpose of the letter remains clear throughout the entire response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices like 'In addition to that' and 'However' to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as the phrasing 'due to that many strangers were in our event'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'spacious', 'adequate', 'hygienic', and 'distracted'. There are some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'experienced we had' instead of 'experience we had' and 'make situation more chaos' instead of 'caused chaos'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations. To improve, focus on learning common word pairings and checking for grammatical accuracy in your word choices.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'held second anniversary' (missing article), 'two hundreds people' (incorrect pluralization), and 'when we held our event next time' (tense inconsistency). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage and sentence boundaries. While the meaning is generally clear, these errors are frequent enough to distract the reader. Focusing on subject-verb agreement, article usage, and consistent verb tenses will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.
