Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am writing this letter to provide you with the details of our upcoming prize distribution event at your hotel. It is going to be held on 8th September,2026 at 5 pm. Maximum people coming to the event will be 100 so, you can make arrangements according to that like organizing tables or food.

The most thing I like about the hotel is that it is very spacious and we can organise a function in a good way rather than rushing with the each other on event. Additionally, I think it is near to every guests house which will not take any extra time for them to reach and hotel is also available with plenty of car parking space and people will not have to waste their time in finding the parking lots.

I think there should be increase in the number of washrooms at hotel. So, that guests do not have to wait for long time in que to use them. Also, the stage is little small in size. You can increase it in future for other events. Rest everything is good.

Hope you will organise the event according to details which I have given you.

Yours Faithfully,

Inderveer Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention the event details, the description of the event itself is quite brief. The suggestions for improvement are relevant but could be expanded with more specific reasoning to better demonstrate your ability to communicate effectively in a professional context. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the depth of information could be improved to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on one of the required points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally' and 'Also' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. For example, the jump from discussing the parking to suggesting more washrooms could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure would benefit from a more sophisticated range of linking words to improve the flow and cohesion of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'spacious', 'arrangements', and 'prize distribution'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'The most thing I like' (should be 'The thing I like most') and 'rushing with the each other' (which is non-standard). To improve, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to event management and formal correspondence. The current range is sufficient for the task but lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'Maximum people coming to the event will be 100' (should be 'The maximum number of guests...'), 'near to every guests house' (should be 'near every guest's house'), and 'in que' (should be 'in a queue'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would be beneficial.
