Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to inform you that I recently reserved a room at your esteemed hotel in order to organize an important event of my company.

The event was celebrated last week on 21st of August 2026 in the evening at 4.00 PM. It was a special milestone for the company as it was my company's 25th anniversary. The event was attended by around 500 guests including employees.

The amazing thing that I liked about your hotel was the staff was so professional as they attended all the guests very nicely. In addition, the sitting and standing arrangements were also quite satisfied.

Even though everything went very well, I would appreciate it if more food options could be included in the menu from different nations as in this way, people get chance to try something new during their special day, which can make their day more special.

Thank you for the service that was provided during celebration by your team. I hope my advice could be considered.

Yours faithfully,

Soni.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The event details (date, time, purpose, and guest count) are clear and relevant. The positive feedback regarding the staff and the suggestion for a more diverse menu are well-integrated. To reach a higher band, ensure that the purpose of the letter is stated more naturally; for example, instead of saying you 'reserved a room' to organize an event, it would be more accurate to say you 'booked the conference facilities' or 'hosted an event'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which aids readability. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition' and 'Even though', which help connect your ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words. For instance, the transition between the event details and the positive feedback is a bit abrupt. Using more sophisticated transitions would help the letter feel more cohesive and professional.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'esteemed', 'milestone', and 'professional'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, you wrote that the arrangements were 'quite satisfied', whereas 'quite satisfactory' would be the correct adjective to describe the arrangements. Additionally, 'celebrated last week' is slightly awkward; 'held last week' is more standard for business events. Expanding your range to include more precise business-related collocations would enhance your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, and your meaning is consistently clear. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'the staff was so professional as they attended all the guests', which would be better phrased as 'the staff were highly professional in their service'. You also have a minor error in 'people get chance', which should be 'people get a chance'. While these errors are present, they do not impede communication. To improve, try to incorporate more varied complex sentence structures and ensure subject-verb agreement is consistent.
