Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to express my experienced which i observed at the hotel during the event

To begin with, as our company have an annual event every year where our organization discuss achivements, next year goals, and recognized employees for their hardwork by providing them not only awards like employee of the year but bonuses .

Personally, i love the theme of your hotel as we already mentioned organiser of your hotel to set the themes according to company colors logo which is blue. Moreover, hall was tidy as well as food was too delicious and fresh every teams members like that.

Despite aforementioned merits such as theme and housekeeping there are some areas which needs to upgrade such as customer services as servers like i observe that they were slow to provide food on time due to food was cold and we have to ask them again to make it warm. Additionally, Toilets were not cleaned so it creates hygeine issue.

look forward to your response.

Your faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting areas for improvement. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the description of the event is a bit cluttered with run-on sentences, and the suggestions for improvement could be more clearly linked to specific solutions. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is developed with more clarity and precision, avoiding unnecessary repetition of company details that do not directly relate to the hotel experience.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a logical structure, moving from the purpose of the letter to the positive aspects, then to the criticisms, and finally the closing. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the phrase 'Despite aforementioned merits' is a good attempt at a cohesive link, but the sentence structure following it is grammatically weak. Paragraphing is present, but the transitions between ideas within paragraphs are occasionally abrupt. Improving the flow between sentences by using a wider variety of linking words would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'annual event', 'housekeeping', and 'hygiene issue'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'express my experienced' instead of 'express my experience' and 'servers like i observe' which is not idiomatic. Some spelling errors, such as 'achivements' and 'hygeine', also occur. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure that you proofread for basic spelling and word-form errors, as these occasionally distract the reader from your intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('hall was tidy', 'areas which needs to upgrade'), incorrect verb tenses, and punctuation errors. For example, the sentence 'servers like i observe that they were slow to provide food on time due to food was cold' is grammatically fragmented and confusing. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage.
