Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to thank you for your service on our company organize an event at your hotel last week on 20th August 2026.
The event was related to give farewell party to our elder employees on their retirement and all the employees are invited in the event and also the families of retired employees. It was the precious movement for everyone, and all the people enjoy the function.
The most important thing is everyone appreciate the service provided by the hotel all the staff is very friendly and welcoming. Apart from this, all the chairs and tables are well salted and neat and clean. Moreover, all the dishes are mouthwatering.
Overall, all the services are good but there are some areas which need improvements like the sitting area is small there are few chairs available for elder people as well as there are limited staff available for service, so need to be hire more individuals in the hotel.
Thank you for your consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Rupinder Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting areas for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the event was a farewell party, adding a bit more detail about the specific nature of the event or the number of guests would have made the response more engaging. The suggestions for improvement are clear, but could be expanded slightly to provide more constructive feedback to the manager. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use basic linking words such as 'Apart from this' and 'Moreover' to connect your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the paragraphing could be improved by ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence. Some transitions feel slightly repetitive. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of cohesive devices to link your ideas more fluidly, and ensure that the progression of information feels natural throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some good descriptive phrases like 'mouthwatering' and 'friendly and welcoming'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'well salted' (likely meant 'well set' or 'arranged') and 'precious movement' (likely meant 'precious moment'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do highlight a need for more precise vocabulary usage. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that the words you choose accurately reflect the intended meaning in a professional context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and subject-verb agreement. For example, 'all the employees are invited' should be 'were invited' to match the past tense of the event, and 'need to be hire' should be 'need to hire'. Additionally, there are some punctuation issues, such as run-on sentences in the final paragraph. While these errors rarely prevent understanding, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy of your writing. Focusing on consistent tense usage will significantly improve your score.
