Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I hope you are doing well.
I am writing this letter to express my concern regarding the event which we organized together at the Radisson Blu Hotel.
As you know, we suffered a lot to get an event planner, but we faced many problems. During the event but any how we did everything so well.
However, we learn so many new things from you tube to make it attractive and beautiful.
Moreover, the idea that we took from social media plays an important role among the employees, as every on ethiks who organized everything so perfectly. I also liked the corner where music was played; the music was so good and having so sweet voice which is reason i didn't forget that till now.
However, I got some suggestions from certain employees, since they want to make some changes. about the colour theme for the artwork. So I decided to change it according to their choice.
I will look forward to your response as well. If you want to make any other changes or have any questions regarding this, i will wait for your response.
your sincerly,
lovie

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the task: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat weak. The description of the event is vague, and the suggestions for improvement are unclear, as the writer mentions changing the 'colour theme' without explaining why this is an improvement for the hotel. The tone is inconsistent, shifting from a professional context to informal references like 'you tube' and 'social media', which does not fully meet the requirements of a formal letter to a hotel manager.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression between ideas is often disjointed. For example, the transition from discussing the event to mentioning 'you tube' and then to the music corner feels abrupt. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover' and 'However', but they are sometimes used incorrectly or in a repetitive manner. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between the event planner, the event itself, and the online research is difficult to follow. Paragraphing is present but does not always effectively group related ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'we suffered a lot to get an event planner' and 'having so sweet voice'. The use of 'you tube' as a source of professional event planning advice is stylistically inappropriate for this task. Spelling errors, such as 'on ethiks' (on thinks) and 'your sincerly', further detract from the quality of the writing. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate a higher level of control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('we learn so many new things'), subject-verb agreement ('every on ethiks'), and punctuation errors, such as the misuse of commas and the lack of capitalisation in 'i'. Complex sentence attempts are often faulty, leading to confusion in meaning. While the reader can generally understand the intent, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the writing from reaching a higher band score.
