Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing regarding my company's annual conference that was held at your hotel on October 10th, in the main hall.
Our yearly meeting is an extremely important event, as we gather our staff from all around the country to meet and discuss and celebrate their amazing achievement throughout the former year, and hear their compliments about any issues they faced and how they suggest to work them out.
on one hand, it was a great opportunity to reserve your hotel with its fascinating service, the staff were really friend. The hall was spacious and really comfortable. Moreover, providing an outdoor smoking area was a really convenient idea. Additionally, the view from the terrace was breathe-taken.
However, I would like to suggest some enhancement that would really turn the whole experience to be absolutely memorable. First of all providing accommodation would be a lovely addition as we have numerous of members who come from a long distance and it could be great if they found a near place to spent the night in. In addition specifying an area for a music band would be a really amazing add to enjoy some music during breaks or catering.
thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. To reach a higher band, ensure that the development of ideas is slightly more balanced; for instance, the description of the event could be more concise to allow for more depth in the suggestions section. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'However' to link your ideas. However, the transition 'on one hand' is used incorrectly here, as it is typically used to contrast two sides of an argument rather than to introduce a list of positive points. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'fascinating service' and 'absolutely memorable' are effective. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'breathe-taken' (should be 'breathtaking'), 'numerous of members' (should be 'numerous members'), and 'amazing add' (should be 'addition'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the staff were really friend' (should be 'friendly'), 'spent the night' (should be 'spend'), and minor punctuation issues like the lowercase 't' in 'thank you'. Additionally, some phrasing is slightly awkward, such as 'suggest to work them out'. While the meaning is always clear, the frequency of these small errors prevents a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and word forms will help improve your accuracy.
