Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my opinion about the services which we received for the annual day party conducted at your hotel in the last month.

Our company organized annual day party at your place on July 20, 2026 in your banquet hall. I really liked few of the things especially the lighting at the entrance and in the hall with that the pictures came out really well, in addition to that the disco lights on the dance floor increased the energy in the dancers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, as it is only 87 words long. Consequently, the task is not fully addressed. While you have provided details about the event and mentioned what you liked, you have completely omitted the third bullet point regarding suggestions for improvement. To reach a higher band, you must ensure all parts of the prompt are covered and that you write a sufficient amount of text to develop your ideas fully.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The letter is very short, which limits the ability to demonstrate effective paragraphing or a range of cohesive devices. There is a basic attempt to link ideas using 'in addition to that', but the overall structure is underdeveloped due to the lack of a concluding paragraph and the missing section on improvements. The progression of ideas is logical within the limited space, but the lack of sufficient content makes the overall coherence feel fragmented.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is functional but basic. Phrases like 'really liked few of the things' and 'increased the energy' are understandable but lack the sophistication expected at higher levels. There is little attempt to use less common lexical items or precise collocations related to event management or hospitality. To improve, try to incorporate more descriptive and professional vocabulary to better convey your experience and feedback to the hotel manager.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The grammar is generally clear, but the range of structures is limited. You rely mostly on simple or compound sentences. There are some minor errors, such as 'I really liked few of the things' (should be 'a few') and 'in the last month' (usually 'last month'). The sentence structure is somewhat repetitive. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures and ensure greater precision in your use of articles and prepositions.
