Student answer (Band 6.0)

dear sir/madam

I am writing to this about recentaly my company organise an event at your hotel on 10th august, the event name is max gala, where multinational ceo attented this event.

I loved everything at that even accept some arrangements. Firstly, I liked the buffet, which had two options: cold and hot. People enjoyed both with refreshing drinks. Also, they like decoration and the seating area with a glass of wine, napkins, and flowers. About this event, my boss was very impressed, and they were also promoted in their company.

I would suggest some improvements that will help in the future. The foremost one is that, in our event, one group was vegetarian, and because of a misunderstanding, everything got messed up. In addition, another mistake was a singer who sang a song at a very low volume, so the people who sat at back not enjoyed properly.

I hope, it will avoid in my upcoming event, otherwise, everything was on top notch. Thank you for your attention; my guests were very happy.

Give me some suggestions that I can include in my next event. I am looking for your reply.

Your sincerly,

Dhruvabahen patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter covers all three bullet points: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although some phrasing is slightly informal. The purpose of the letter is clear from the outset. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the explanation regarding the vegetarian meal misunderstanding is brief. To reach a higher band, you should expand slightly more on the impact of these issues and provide more specific suggestions for the manager to implement. Overall, the response is relevant and addresses the prompt effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Also', and 'In addition' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. For example, the jump from discussing the buffet to the boss's promotion is a bit disjointed. Improving the use of referencing and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall cohesion. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter format.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'multinational', 'refreshing', and 'arrangements'. There are some instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'everything got messed up' and 'on top notch', which are slightly informal or grammatically incorrect. While your meaning is always clear, the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and you rely on basic descriptors. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and formal business terminology to better suit the context of a letter to a hotel manager.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include 'I am writing to this about recentaly', 'multinational ceo attented', and 'people who sat at back not enjoyed properly'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader, though they do not prevent communication. You need to focus on subject-verb agreement, correct verb tenses, and proper sentence construction. Proofreading for basic errors like 'Your sencerly' (which should be 'Yours sincerely') is essential to improve your accuracy.
