Dear Sir / Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Hi Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter to personally thank you and your staff for the spectacular arrangements and service during our annual gala dinner organized your hotel.
The event was an annual company dinner held at your rosemary hall for approximately 250 employees and business partners. It included speeches, prize distribution, and a networking session followed by a dinner.
Overall, we were pleased with the facilities and service provided. The rosemary hall was spacious, clean, and well equipped with modern audio-visual equipment. In addition the staff was professional and helpful throughout the event. The food served at the dinner was also of high standard, different variety of cuisine, and amazing choices of desserts.
However, I believe there is one area that could be improved. The registration area became quite crowded when guests arrived, as there was only one stuff member assisting with check-ins. Having an additional stuff member available during the busy period would make the process much easier and quicker.
Thank you once again for helping us organize a successful event. We would be happy to consider your hotel for our company’s future events.
Yours faithfully,
Muhammad Jamal.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided clear details about the event, identified specific positive aspects of the hotel (the hall facilities and staff professionalism), and offered a constructive suggestion regarding the registration process. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager, and the purpose is clear throughout. The response is well-developed and fully satisfies the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a polite closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which aids readability. You have used some cohesive devices such as 'In addition' and 'However' to transition between ideas. To reach a higher band, you could incorporate a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the flow between sentences is slightly more sophisticated, as some transitions feel a bit mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have used a good range of vocabulary appropriate for a business context, such as 'spectacular arrangements', 'professional', and 'audio-visual equipment'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as using 'stuff' instead of 'staff' and 'different variety of cuisine' which is slightly awkward phrasing. Improving the precision of your word choices and ensuring correct spelling of key terms will help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
Your grammar is generally accurate, and you have successfully used a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are a few minor errors, such as the missing preposition in 'organized your hotel' (should be 'at your hotel') and the confusion between 'stuff' and 'staff'. Punctuation is mostly correct, though ensure you use commas correctly after introductory phrases. The majority of your sentences are error-free, which allows for clear communication throughout the letter.
