Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter regarding the event that was organised at your hotel by our company, Google. the event was a great success because of your support.

The event was held on last moday in the main hall where all the top exectuvies of various other companies gathered together. The event was for the launch of our new products showcasing all new laptop series.

Particularly, the hotel management staff helped us for delivering a controlled coordinated work among all the organisers and other members. Moreover, the ambience of the hotel environment was maintianed throughout the event. Also, the food quality of snacks and beverages served was upto the excellent level.

However, i would like to recommend a few things which can be improved in few areas. Firstly, there should be avaliablity of private meeting rooms to conduct any meeting. Secondly, the instruction sheet of series of events should be provided to all the staff members for better understanding of work prgress.

I am looking forward to conduct more events with the hotel.

Your's Sincerely,

Ava

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: providing event details, highlighting positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The event details are clear, and the suggestions are relevant. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the suggestion regarding 'private meeting rooms' could have been expanded by explaining why they were needed or how they would have improved the event. Despite this, all parts of the task are covered, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Also', 'However', and 'Firstly' are used to link sentences and ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in structure. Referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the event success and the specific staff support could be more tightly integrated. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the clarity of the message.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their message clearly. There are some attempts at more specific vocabulary, such as 'ambience' and 'coordinated', which are used correctly. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'moday', 'exectuvies', 'maintianed', 'upto', and 'avaliablity'. These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, the writer should focus on accuracy in spelling and attempt a slightly wider range of collocations to describe the event and the hotel services more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The letter uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies. Examples include 'the event was held on last moday' (unnecessary 'on'), 'helped us for delivering' (incorrect preposition), and 'I am looking forward to conduct' (should be 'to conducting'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are minor issues with capitalization and the closing sign-off ('Your's' is incorrect; it should be 'Yours'). The errors are frequent enough to prevent a higher score, but they do not cause significant difficulty for the reader.
