Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir / Madam,
My name is Simranjit Kaur. I work at mircom group of companies as a manager. Recently, we hosted a party at your hotel and wanted to give my feedback regarding your hotel service.
It was 25th year company anniversary party. we were about 250 people. Overall, I really liked the hospitality services and the food in the event. Everybody was praising and happy to attend the party. Even though my company owner was really shocked about the arrangements.
Moreover, there is couple of things that I think your hotel should improve. The first is music. It was very loud especially for old people. Another is table sand chairs we noticed that some chairs and tables were broken in the event. I suggest you to replace them.
At last, I want to say Thank you for hosting such a good party for me and my company. we will recommended everyone in our knowns to do great party at your hotel.
Your sincerely,
Simranjit Kaur
( Company manager)

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, when mentioning the 'broken' tables and chairs, you could have provided more specific details about the impact this had on the event to better demonstrate the severity of the issue. Additionally, the phrase 'my company owner was really shocked' is slightly ambiguous; it is unclear if this was a positive or negative reaction. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but more descriptive language would elevate the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'The first is', and 'At last' to transition between ideas. While these are effective, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. For instance, the transition between the positive feedback and the suggestions for improvement could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some sentences are quite short, which slightly impacts the overall fluency of the text. Improving the variety of linking words would help create a more cohesive and professional flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'hospitality services' and 'arrangements' correctly. However, there are some instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'everyone in our knowns' and 'do great party'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do highlight a need for more natural collocations. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to event management, such as 'amenities', 'facilities', or 'feedback regarding the quality of service'. Your spelling is generally accurate, but ensure you pay attention to basic word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'there is couple of things' (should be 'there are a couple of things'), 'table sand chairs' (typo), and 'we will recommended' (should be 'we will recommend'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and capitalization issues, such as 'we' starting a sentence with a lowercase letter. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage, particularly when discussing past events.
