Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter finds you well.
I am writing on behave of my company entitled, The Luxe Marketing. My company has organized an event at your hotel two weeks ago. The event was about the marketing strategies, how to advertise the product, and consumer's satisfaction and feedback. The event was consisted of speeches of the chief guest and renowned marketing experts followed by the lunch.
Undoubtedly, we have received a great support from the hotel throughout the event. Moreover the staff was very well organized and cooperative and helped me and my colleagues to do the arrangements according to the needs of the event. Furthermore, the location of your hotel is near the public transport which is why we were able to pull the large number of gathering. The seminar hall was spacious and ventilated.
But I believe that there are some areas for improvement on which you need to work. The restrooms were not clean in addition waiters were taking time to fill the buffet. Overall, it was a great experience working with you. I am looking forward to working with you in future too.
Yours sincerely,
Ali Khan.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You provided details about the event, such as the topic of marketing strategies, and clearly identified both the positive aspects of the hotel and areas for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that the details provided are slightly more descriptive; for example, instead of just mentioning 'speeches', you could briefly elaborate on the impact of the event to further develop your ideas. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'In addition' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be improved by separating the positive feedback from the suggestions for improvement more distinctly. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, and the letter is easy to follow. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed theme to enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'renowned', 'spacious', and 'ventilated' appropriately. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'on behave of' (should be 'on behalf of') and 'pull the large number of gathering' (should be 'attract a large number of attendees'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise usage. To improve, focus on learning common business collocations and proofreading for small prepositional errors to ensure your language sounds more natural and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'The event was consisted of' (should be 'The event consisted of') and 'my company has organized' (should be 'my company organized' as it refers to a specific time in the past). Additionally, there are minor punctuation issues, such as missing commas after introductory phrases. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To reach a higher band, focus on mastering verb tenses and passive voice constructions, and ensure your subject-verb agreement is consistent throughout the text.
