Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir
I am writing this letter to express my satisfaction for the event organized at your hotel. The event was organized to felicitate our employees for their outstanding performances and dedication for our company.
The main highlight of the event was its food. All the guests and our international clients enjoyed the several delicacies. Apart from this, the behavior and hospitality of staff was extremely welcoming and pleasant to all our guests. In fact, As our team forgot to bring few stationeries, the manager of hotel helped us to get all the items in time.
I would also like to raise a small concern about parking area at hotel. We felt that it was quite small as many of our guests had to park outside the hotel as there was no enough space. It would be great if you can make any alternate arrangement for parking for all the guests during this kind of massive events.
Thanking you

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: providing details about the event, highlighting positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear from the outset. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the 'details about the event' by mentioning the date or the number of attendees, which would provide more context. However, the current response is well-focused and covers all requirements effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Apart from this' and 'In fact' to link your ideas. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly mechanical. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas flows more naturally between sentences. Overall, the structure is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'felicitate', 'delicacies', and 'hospitality'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'forgot to bring few stationeries' (should be 'some stationery') and 'massive events' (which can sound slightly informal or imprecise in this context). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more precise collocations would elevate your score. The spelling is generally accurate throughout the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'the manager of hotel' (missing an article: 'the hotel manager') and 'no enough space' (should be 'not enough space'). Additionally, 'As our team forgot to bring few stationeries' is a slightly awkward construction. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading regarding articles and quantifiers. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures would also help improve your score in this criterion.
