Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am Ravi Patel. I am writing to provide feedback regarding a corporate event that my company recently organized at your hotel. The event was an annual conference meeting held on 28th august, which was attended by 80 employees and managers from different regional branches of our company.

Overall, we were pleased with the service and facilities provided by your hotel. In particular, the conference hall was spacious, well organized and equipped with modern audio-video facilities, which allowed us to conduct the presentations very smoothly. I was also impressed by the professionalism of the staff, as they were very quick, polite and cooperative whenever we required assistance. In addition, the quality of food that served after meeting was delicious and excellent.

However, there are some areas that could be improved. The main issue was limited parking, which caused inconvenience to our guests. Furthermore, the Wi-Fi connection become slow during the time of presentation. I would appreciate it if you could look in this improvement areas, so that it would be more convenient for future business events.

Thank you for your hospitality, and i hope these suggestions will be useful.

Yours faithfully,

Ravi Patel.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided clear details about the event, including the date and the number of attendees. You also highlighted specific positive aspects of the hotel, such as the conference hall facilities and staff professionalism, and offered constructive suggestions regarding parking and Wi-Fi. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, ensuring the reader understands the purpose of your communication immediately. You have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a polite closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'In particular', 'In addition', and 'However' to transition between ideas effectively. The paragraphing is appropriate, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the feedback. The progression of ideas is smooth, making the letter easy to follow. The use of referencing is generally clear, and the overall structure supports the message well.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary suitable for a formal business context, such as 'corporate event', 'professionalism', 'cooperative', and 'hospitality'. There are a few minor inaccuracies, such as 'food that served' (should be 'food that was served') and 'look in this improvement areas' (should be 'look into these areas for improvement'). However, these do not impede communication. You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your points clearly and maintain a professional tone throughout the letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. While there are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'Wi-Fi connection become slow' (should be 'became' or 'became') and the capitalization error in 'i hope', the majority of your sentences are error-free. Your control over punctuation and sentence construction is generally good. The errors present are non-systematic and do not cause any difficulty for the reader. You have demonstrated a solid command of grammar appropriate for this level.
