Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this to inform you that our company recently booked your property for a party, and we really liked it.
I wish to bring few things to your attention, Firstly, I booked your resort for a farewell party. However, everything was perfect. I really liked the ambience of the hotel and the location as well. Moreover, the staff was very supportive over there they were handling the guests at their best way possible.
In contrast, I found one thing that was not up to the mark and that was the chef of that event I noticed some the food items were stale in taste. Some servants were also not performing their duties well they were just roaming around in the property. This has caused considerable inconvenience to all the guests attending that party.
Apart from that, everything was fine. I would suggest you to please give some attention to these people and that would be great for you and for your hotel as well.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours Faithfully
Alex

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting areas for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the food was 'stale', providing a specific example of the dish or the nature of the service failure would have made your feedback more constructive and persuasive. The letter clearly communicates the purpose, but expanding slightly on the 'why' behind your suggestions would elevate the response to a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'In contrast' to signal shifts in topic. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or misused. For example, 'In contrast' is not the most natural choice to introduce a complaint after a compliment; 'However' or 'On the other hand' would be more suitable. Additionally, the sentence structure within paragraphs is sometimes choppy, and the flow between ideas could be smoother with more varied linking words.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'ambience', 'supportive', and 'inconvenience'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'servants' is not the standard term for hotel staff; 'waitstaff' or 'employees' would be more appropriate. You also use 'at their best way possible', which is slightly unnatural. To improve, focus on using more precise professional terminology and collocations that are common in business correspondence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For instance, you have some punctuation issues, such as run-on sentences ('...over there they were handling...') and missing articles ('...some the food items...'). There are also minor errors in verb agreement and preposition usage. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on sentence boundaries and proofreading for small grammatical slips will help improve your accuracy.
