Dear Sir / Madam,

Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to appreciate the arrangements made on August 15, 2026, in the Maclean Hall. Cobequid Health Centre Foundation organized a fundraising event to support Mobile Digital X-ray in one of our halls.

When I entered the Holiday INN, I was mesmerized by the ambiance. I especially liked the lighting arrangement, followed by the sound quality, and then the vintage-styled podium, which was captivating to the audience.

I would like to give an opinion on how you could improve the projector in the hall. It was not working properly because it was a highly technical model to use. I want you to provide a manual so that a common person can operate it without facing any difficulty.

I would love to book your hotel for our upcoming event in November. I hope next time we will not face any difficulty while giving a presentation using a projector.

Yours sincerely,

Anamika

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided the necessary details about the event, highlighted specific aspects of the hotel you enjoyed, and offered a constructive suggestion for improvement regarding the projector. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could explain why the lighting and sound were particularly effective for your specific fundraising event, which would add more depth to your response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is well-organized with a clear logical progression. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which makes the letter easy to follow. You have used appropriate paragraphing and basic cohesive devices like 'When I entered' and 'I would like to give an opinion'. To improve, you could incorporate a wider range of linking words and transition phrases to connect your sentences more fluidly, such as 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', or 'In addition to this', which would help the flow feel less mechanical.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You have used a good range of vocabulary appropriate for the context, such as 'mesmerized', 'ambiance', and 'captivating'. These choices demonstrate a good awareness of style. There are no significant errors in word choice that impede communication. To move into the higher bands, try to incorporate more precise collocations or less common idiomatic expressions that sound natural in a professional setting. For example, instead of 'give an opinion', you could use 'offer a suggestion' or 'provide feedback'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

Your grammar is generally accurate, and you have used a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are error-free, and the punctuation is handled well. There are minor areas for improvement, such as the phrasing 'in one of our halls', which is slightly ambiguous. Additionally, ensure consistent verb tense usage when discussing future events. Overall, your control of grammar is strong, and the occasional minor slips do not interfere with the clarity of your message.
