Dear Sir / Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing in response to the Employee Appreciation event which was organized by TD at Taj Banjara.
To begin with, the event was organized on 21st August in Taj hotel by renting a banquet hall. It was a half day event which was involved with a couple of games and then followed by the refreshments. This event was mainly to recognize and encourage the hardworking individuals in the organization.
Regarding the hotel, I really enjoyed the atmosphere around it as it is located in an isolated location. Additionally, the hotel is extremely rich in terms of its architectural brilliance as it showcases the countries history and pride. More importantly, beach view from hotel is fabulous and really give a kind of satisfying feeling.
Finally, I would like to provide some suggestions in particular areas especially the food and the customer service. The food which was served to the guests was not warm so I advise that you should consider this and keep the food warm by using the insulated containers or heat holders. In addition to that, I kindly request that you should train the staff and ensure that the proper service is delivered and maintained. The customer service was so disappoint and discouraging because of their significant delays and rude behaviour.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You provided clear details about the event, identified specific aspects of the hotel you enjoyed, and offered constructive suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are well-developed, particularly in the final paragraph where you offer specific solutions for the food temperature issues. To reach a higher band, ensure that all details are fully accurate; for instance, mentioning a 'beach view' at a hotel in Banjara (which is landlocked) might be seen as a factual inconsistency, though it does not impede the task completion. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets all requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a single theme, which aids readability. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', and 'Finally' to transition between ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary the sentence structure to create a smoother flow between ideas. For example, instead of starting every paragraph with a transition word, you could embed cohesive elements within the sentences. The paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the overall clarity of the message.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'architectural brilliance', 'hardworking individuals', and 'insulated containers'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'the event... was involved with' (should be 'involved') and 'the customer service was so disappoint' (should be 'disappointing'). These errors do not impede communication but prevent the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on using more precise adjectives and ensuring that word forms (e.g., noun vs. adjective) are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'the event was organized... by renting a banquet hall' (slightly awkward phrasing), 'the countries history' (missing apostrophe: 'country's'), and 'beach view from hotel' (missing article: 'the hotel'). Additionally, 'the customer service was so disappoint' is a grammatical error. Despite these slips, the meaning is always clear, and the errors do not cause difficulty for the reader. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help improve your score in this criterion.
