Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the event details, the positive aspects of the hotel, and the area for improvement. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, the description of the event is brief, and the suggestion for improvement regarding parking is stated rather than fully explained. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though there are some inconsistencies in register, such as the use of 'you guys'. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is expanded with more specific detail and maintain a consistently formal tone throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure of the response. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the positive feedback and finally the complaint. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. Transitions between sentences are occasionally abrupt, and some referencing is unclear, such as the phrase 'it is out 25th Anniversary'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas would enhance the overall flow and coherence of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and sophistication expected at higher bands. There are several word-choice errors, such as 'gland' instead of 'glad', 'motel' instead of 'hotel', and 'conducted an 25th Anniversary' instead of 'held our 25th anniversary celebration'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do highlight a limited range of vocabulary. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that words are used in their correct context, rather than relying on basic or incorrectly applied terminology.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'I never been experienced' (tense error), 'our clients has liked' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'some of our colleagues has been faced issue' (passive voice and article errors). While the meaning remains clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
