Student answer (Band 5.5)

Hi Sir,

I hope you are doing absolutely fine.

Recently, we organized the Farewell event where I chose to celebrate at Hayat Hotel near the bramlea city centre. I selected that most of our company staff nearby that place and It is convenient for them to commute as well.

Apart from them, I particularly liked that hoteland booth for picture shoot. Along with, It is well designed sitting area and has food hall aside. However, its really in our budget list .

They have five star rating and review online and service they deliver is fabulous.

I would recommend If we will select any color theme for dress up, it would be great.

Although, By arranging any outdoor activityfor all of them comes in one suggestion.

I hope you will find this message as soon s your convenience and if you have any questions reach out to me.

Yours faithfully,

Komal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting improvements. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited. For instance, the 'details about the event' are vague, and the suggestions for improvement (a dress code and outdoor activities) are not clearly linked to the hotel's services or facilities. The tone is somewhat informal for a formal letter to a manager, and the purpose of the letter is not clearly established in the opening. To improve, you should provide more specific information about the event and ensure your suggestions are practical and relevant to the hotel's operations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter is organized into short paragraphs, but the logical flow between sentences is often disjointed. Transitions are frequently missing or misused, such as 'Apart from them' and 'Along with', which do not effectively connect the ideas. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes confusing, making the progression of ideas feel abrupt. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that flows naturally into the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and occasionally inaccurate, which hinders the professional tone required for this task. Phrases like 'most of our company staff nearby that place' and 'its really in our budget list' are awkward and lack precision. There are also several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'bramlea' (likely Bramalea) and 'hoteland'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and the lack of formal register prevents the letter from sounding professional. Expanding your range of collocations and formal business terminology would significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The letter contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the message. There are issues with article usage ('the Farewell event'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure (e.g., 'I selected that most of our company staff nearby that place'). The use of complex sentences is attempted but often results in errors, such as 'I would recommend If we will select any color theme'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and spacing. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb tenses.
