Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter to you regarding our recent event organized at your place on 2nd Sep 2026. The event was all about announcing company’s mid year performance and to honour awards for employees.
We are really pleased that the event was well organised and managed. I would like to sincerely express our gratitude towards your staff who were available all the time and provide instant support as and when required without any delay. All our issues were addressed immediately and sorted without causing any inconvenience to our staff.
However, I would like to address few discomfort occurred during the event. Especially the projector and mic has few problems initially. Technical team arrived and sorted out which unnecessary caused a delay to start our event.
I personally suggest that your technical team to do a prior checking of all the devices before the event commences. By reinforcing this additional quality check will help you to avoid such situations in future and will improve your overall review and recommendations.
Thanks and Regards,
Usha

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The purpose of the letter is clear from the outset, and the ideas are developed sufficiently to meet the requirements of the task. The response is well-structured and maintains a consistent focus on the prompt throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow the narrative easily. Cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Especially', and 'By reinforcing this' are used to link sentences and ideas. While the paragraphing is effective, the transition between the positive feedback and the suggestions could be slightly more sophisticated to improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally appropriate for a formal business letter, using terms like 'sincerely express our gratitude' and 'commences'. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'honour awards' (should be 'present awards') and 'discomfort occurred' (should be 'discomforts occurred' or 'issues arose'). Despite these minor inaccuracies, the range is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The letter uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'the projector and mic has' (subject-verb agreement) and 'unnecessary caused' (should be 'unnecessarily caused'). Additionally, the phrase 'I personally suggest that your technical team to do' is grammatically incorrect; it should be 'I suggest that your technical team do' or 'I suggest that your technical team should do'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the score in this criterion.
