Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this to express my feedback regarding event which organized recently at a hotel.
Firstly, I would like to mention about the event so basically, It was our company's annual event included award function, dance and dinner. Although, the event was around five hours long, all employees were enjoying a party and food.
Furthermore, I would like to mention some concerns about the events such as time management and lighting. The lights of the banquet was not good as we expected because of this people were not able to focus on a stage. Apart from that, the schedule was totally mismanaged due to electricity issue.
Lastly, I would like to suggest a plenty of ideas to improve in that particular area. Hotel staff should have their own timetable for the event also the hotel need an extra generators for a future so hotel can manage events without any difficulties.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Yash.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the event included an 'award function, dance and dinner,' you do not specify what you particularly liked about the hotel, as requested in the second bullet point; you only mention the event itself. To improve, ensure each bullet point is fully expanded with specific details. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though the structure could be more refined to ensure all requirements are met with equal depth.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly,' 'Furthermore,' and 'Lastly' to signal the progression of your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly forced. For example, the jump from discussing the event to mentioning concerns about lighting could be smoother. Additionally, the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'improve in that particular area,' which lacks a specific antecedent. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall cohesion of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'banquet,' 'management,' and 'consideration.' However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'event which organized recently' (should be 'which was organized') and 'a plenty of ideas' (should be 'plenty of ideas'). You rely on fairly basic vocabulary throughout the letter. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common lexical items that are appropriate for a formal business context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include missing articles ('the event,' 'the hotel'), incorrect verb forms ('all employees were enjoying' should be 'enjoyed'), and issues with pluralization ('an extra generators'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately without missing auxiliary verbs.
