Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my satisfaction with your hotel service that my company recently received and I would also share some feedback to improve few areas in the hotel.

My organisation held a reward event at the silver city hotel in Brampton, Ontario on Thursday, 22 August 2026 in the evening. Approximately 60 people were invited to join this occasion, so music and dinner were also included for refreshment at the end of the event.

That day, I liked excellent services that my team and I had received. I really liked the environment of the place where I could enjoy the background music. In addition, I mainly appreciate dinner pres

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, as it is significantly under-length at 115 words. Furthermore, the letter is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence ('I mainly appreciate dinner pres'). While you have addressed the first two bullet points—providing details about the event and mentioning what you liked—the third bullet point regarding areas for improvement is entirely missing due to the unfinished nature of the text. To achieve a higher band, you must ensure all parts of the prompt are fully developed and that the response meets the minimum length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The letter shows a basic attempt at organization with a clear opening and paragraph structure. However, because the text is incomplete, the overall progression is interrupted. Cohesive devices are used in a limited way, such as 'In addition' and 'That day', but the abrupt ending prevents a logical conclusion or a sense of flow. To improve, ensure that each paragraph is fully developed and that you use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally appropriate for a formal letter, such as 'express my satisfaction' and 'occasion'. However, the range is quite limited and repetitive. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'I would also share some feedback to improve few areas', which should be 'a few areas'. Because the text is incomplete, there is insufficient evidence of a wide range of vocabulary. Focus on using more precise adjectives and varied collocations to describe your experience and suggestions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are grammatical errors present, such as 'I would also share' (should be 'I would also like to share') and 'excellent services that my team and I had received' (the past perfect is unnecessary here; simple past 'received' is better). Punctuation is generally functional, but the incomplete nature of the final sentence makes it impossible to assess your ability to construct complex ideas accurately. Aim for more error-free sentences and ensure your verb tenses are consistent.
