Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to appreciate the wonderful service we had during our event at your hotel.
Last week on Friday, our ABC company decided to organise a launch event at your hotel. Our launch was related to jewellery and I wondered how your staff manage everything perfectly. The lightining was commendable because all the jewellery pieces was looking flawless and shiny which makes significant growth in our product sales. Moreover, we had a dinner party after our launch and the food was delicious.
Although we had a great experience, we found that the music system was not working properly. When our owner was on stage expressing his views about the new launch, suddently speaker starts beeping at high volume which makes everyone to leave for a while. The hotel manager apologize and compensate for the inconvinience.
We are thankful for organising such an amazing event and we look forward to book your hotel for an upcoming event.
Yours sincerely,
Aastha

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting areas for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, although the development of the 'areas for improvement' section could be slightly more detailed to reach a higher band. The purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning, and the closing is polite and professional.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Although', and 'When' are used effectively to link sentences and ideas. However, the transition between the positive aspects and the negative feedback could be smoother. The use of paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure supports the reader's understanding of the message.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. You used some good descriptive terms like 'commendable', 'flawless', and 'inconvenience'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'lightining' (lighting) and 'suddently' (suddenly). Additionally, 'makes significant growth in our product sales' is slightly unnatural; a more precise phrase would be 'contributed to a significant increase in our sales'. Expanding your range of collocations would help improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'all the jewellery pieces was looking' should be 'were looking') and tense consistency (e.g., 'speaker starts beeping' should be 'the speaker started beeping'). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences would benefit from more careful proofreading to ensure accuracy in verb forms and tense usage.
