Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear sir,
I am writing this letter to express my elated feeling towards you welcoming environment of the hotel. Two weeks ago, i visited you hotel with my colleagues for organize a retirement party for one of assistant manager.
Every member of our event was impressed by the enjoying environment and by the staff. because the lightning, wall and combination of red wooden furniture elaborate the traditional values. Although, hotel staff behave professionally, they handle and arrange every requirement very carefully. Moreover, I appreciated the setting arrangement, as we our member are in wide group, instead of split our tables, we got chance to enjoy our party on same big table with comfortable Soffa's. The lunch was also scrumptious.
However, one thing feel imperative to mention that is single washroom. As we was in large group we waited long for use washroom turn by turn. Overall, i would like to come in future again, but i sincerely appriciate if you arrange separate washrooms for men and women until.
your well wisher

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting an area for improvement. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening is slightly awkward. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, fulfilling the requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, ensure that your opening statement is more natural and that you maintain a consistent formal tone throughout the letter. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the reader is well-informed about the event and your feedback.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'However' to link your ideas, which helps the flow of the text. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the connection between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the description of the furniture and the staff behavior is slightly abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'our member' vs 'our members') is consistent will help improve the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'scrumptious', 'imperative', and 'professionally'. However, there are several instances of word choice errors or awkward collocations, such as 'elated feeling towards you welcoming environment' and 'enjoying environment'. Additionally, there are spelling errors like 'Soffa's' (sofas) and 'appriciate' (appreciate). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage and better attention to spelling. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and ensuring correct word forms will help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'for organize a retirement party' (should be 'to organize'), 'one of assistant manager' (should be 'one of the assistant managers'), and 'As we was in large group' (should be 'As we were in a large group'). These errors are noticeable and occur frequently, though they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and prepositional phrases. Increasing your control over these basic structures will significantly enhance your writing.
