Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for arranging the orientation event in a professional manner. I am extremely satisfied that
I chose your hotel this valuable event.
Let me explain in detail. This event was held on the first week of the September. This was the special day for new employees to learn about our company's rules and regulations. Moreover, encourage them to work in our organization with lots of enthusiasm in themselves.
The most vital part of your hotel management is your staff's problem solving skills. They are attentive and mindful of the service they are providing to the customers. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful at the same time.
However, I want to suggest one particular thing which is quite concerning part to me that is time management. The refreshments were supposed to be opened in the afternoon unfortunately, it was available from the evening. this was the major mistake done during the event. I believe that your staff should consider improving on this area. Rest all the things were satisfactory.
Thankyou for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Sara Jafar.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting an area for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the section on the event details is brief, and the suggestion for improvement could be more effectively linked to the impact it had on your event. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is expanded with more specific detail or context to fully satisfy the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure with clear paragraphing, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'However' to transition between ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are minor issues with sentence-level cohesion, such as the run-on sentence in the final paragraph: 'the refreshments were supposed to be opened in the afternoon unfortunately, it was available from the evening.' Improving the flow between sentences and using a wider variety of linking words would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'appreciation', 'professional', and 'satisfactory'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'chose your hotel this valuable event' (missing a preposition) and 'concerning part to me' (which is slightly unnatural). While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, you should aim to incorporate more precise collocations and less common lexical items to demonstrate a higher level of control and flexibility in your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'This event was held on the first week of the September' (incorrect article usage), 'encourage them to work' (fragmented sentence), and punctuation errors, such as the comma splice in the final paragraph. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a stronger grasp of article usage, subject-verb agreement, and sentence boundaries to achieve a higher band score.
