Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir / Madam,

I am writing to provide feedback regarding the corporate event we hosted at your hotel on last Tuesday. Overall, We were extremely pleased with the event facilities, and our team thoroughly enjoyed the scheduled activities throughout the day. However, I would like to offer a few constructive suggestions regarding the condition of some of the hotel management.

The event took place at the central conference hall which was the biggest room. The hall was enough to accommodate all 270 invited guests. The organized event was enough of team activities as well as presenting ideas and follow post-session activities.

Particularly, the interior design of the hotel impressed me well. Additionally, we all were extremely delighted by the hotel staff management who were working relentlessly. Nevertheless, all the guests enjoyed the hospitality of the hotel services and especially the food which was tasty and healthy.

However, I would like to make suggestions around hotel services which were provided a little bit late at some points. Furthermore, we noticed the noise pollution happening at the top roof, so putting a sign board of quiet area at some times would be a great step.

I hope you will address the above mentioned concerns and hopefully in future we look forward to organize the next event at this hotel again.

Yours faithfully,

Viral

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided details about the event, such as the number of guests and the nature of the activities, mentioned positive aspects like the interior design and staff, and suggested improvements regarding service speed and noise control. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To reach a higher band, ensure that the details provided are slightly more descriptive; for example, instead of saying the hall was 'the biggest room', you could describe its suitability for the specific event type. Overall, the response is well-focused and fulfills the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a polite closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Additionally', and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. While the progression is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. For instance, the transition between the event description and the positive feedback could be more fluid. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different topics, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. The structure is consistent and supports the overall message of the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'corporate event', 'accommodate', 'relentlessly', and 'hospitality'. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'condition of some of the hotel management' (which sounds like you are criticizing the staff's health or state rather than their service) and 'noise pollution happening at the top roof' (which is slightly unnatural). However, these errors do not impede communication. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations, such as 'service efficiency' instead of 'hotel services which were provided a little bit late'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'on last Tuesday' (the 'on' is unnecessary), 'The organized event was enough of team activities' (which is grammatically awkward), and 'we look forward to organize' (should be 'to organizing'). Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter. The punctuation is generally accurate, and the sentence variety is sufficient for this task. To achieve a higher score, focus on correcting minor prepositional errors and ensuring consistent verb forms after phrases like 'look forward to'.
